Lake Brienz is quieter, wilder and more intensely coloured than almost anywhere else in the Interlaken region. Glacier-fed water that is genuinely turquoise, cliffs that drop straight into it, and a shoreline where you can go a long while without meeting another boat.
Very few people see it privately. Availability here is limited and every experience is arranged individually.
Why Brienz
Iseltwald
One of the most photographed alpine villages in Switzerland, and far better from the water than from the crowded jetty everyone queues on.
Giessbach Falls
Fourteen tiers of waterfall dropping straight into the lake. There is one angle that does it justice and it only exists from a boat.
The colour
Glacier-fed, and unlike any other lake in the Bernese Oberland. Photographs of it are routinely assumed to be edited.
Alpine solitude
Fewer boats, quieter shores, steeper walls. Where Lake Thun is elegant, Brienz is raw.
There are boats on Brienz. None of them are private.
Lake Brienz has scheduled ferries, public cruises and group tours. They run to a timetable, they stop where the timetable says, and you share the deck with everyone else who bought a ticket.
A private charter is the opposite of all of that: your own boat, your own pace, the route decided on the day, and nobody else aboard.

They are twenty minutes apart and they are not the same experience at all.
